Dedicated to the memory of Duncan Edward Butcher

On the 14th of August, Duncan Edward Butcher was sadly taken from us after being diagnosed with cancer only a few short months ago. Despite the speed and strength of the disease, Duncan remained positive and always told his family to 'keep clam and carry on' when they were scared. Throughout his treatment Duncan maintained his usual good humour, often making jokes in true Duncan style.

Duncan was born on the 27th February 1962 in Bury St Edmunds, to Terry and Dot Butcher, weighing 7lb 12oz. He spent his childhood in Bury, attending St Peter's Primary, Tollgate Middle and County Upper School. Never one to shy from work, he got his first job at the local dog tracks whilst still at school, then joined Greene King at the age of 16. He moved on from there to the IT department of local physiotherapists Rehab Works then spent his last few year working for Ashtons Solicitors.

At the age of 19, Duncan met Claire Gutsell at the Romford "Mod All-Dayer", where after leaving a lasting impression, they soon began dating. They quickly fell in love and settled down to start a life together, buying a home and having two daughters, Ginny and Emily (and several different cats).

One of Duncan's favourite hobbies was running, which is a passion he carried throughout his adult life. His accomplishments included completing three London Marathons and an Iron Man Triathlon in 1990, which included a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike race and a 26 mile run!

Duncan was cared for in his last few days by the St Nicholas Hospice in Bury St Edmunds, where the staff's support and kindness helped ease his passing.

He is much loved by his three girls (and the cat) and he'll be greatly missed.
